Samsung/Sprint Wireless/Honda’s Josh Summey Scores His Best Finish Of ‘05 7th place overall for Summey puts him in qualifying spot for May 7th Vegas 125 Shoot Out.

CARLSBAD, Calif., (April 18, 2005) – With his best overall main event finish of the year coming this past Saturday at Seattle’s Qwest Field, Team Samsung/Sprint Wireless/Honda’s Josh Summey moved into 18th place overall in the 125 West Region standings of the 2005 THQ/AMA Supercross Series, qualifying him so far (one race remains) - for the Dave Coombs Sr. 125 Shoot Out in Las Vegas (May 7th).

Summey’s grouped with several races all with a shot of the top 20 overall and the free pass to the Vegas 125 Shoot Out. He figures his chances of making the program are excellent, considering his best racing has come late in the season this year.

“I didn’t even score any points in the first two races, but my team helped me pull it together and we were able to get our first top ten finish of the year at Seattle,” said Summey. “I knew my speed was there, but I just needed the confidence of that one race, the one where things come together and you finish well. Now I need to carry that momentum to Houston in two weeks, put up another solid finish and then we can focus on racing with the best from both regions at Vegas.”

Summey got to Saturday’s main event by virtue of a solid sixth place finish in the second heat race. He pulled a pretty good start in the main (9th) and gained a couple spots with consistent riding on what was one of the most demanding tracks seen all year by either 125 region. In addition, Summey finished on the main event lead lap, something only eight racers could accomplish out of the 22 that started the race.

Summey and the Samsung/Sprint Wireless/Honda race team return to action in two weeks for the final round of the 125 Western Region series.
